GRI Training for the First Time in Minneapolis!

Coming July 19 & 20, 2012

The business community is building momentum to integrate sustainability into operational strategy.  But how do we reliably measure and report our current impact, track progress, and determine where to focus our efforts?

The Carlson School of Management and Net Impact Minneapolis are excited to announce a special opportunity for GRI Certification.  Taught by ISOS Group, this special two-day Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Certified Training will be held for the first time in Minneapolis on July 19-20, 2012.

Why is the GRI framework useful?

  • Used by companies such as General Mills, Target and Best Buy, GRI helps avoid pitfalls in tracking greenhouse gas and water impacts, social responsibility and governance.
  • It streamlines the reporting process, reducing the time and cost associated with working through the myriad of sustainability frameworks and processes.
  • It provides internal clarity and stakeholder assessment to help organizations achieve their sustainability goals.
  • Socially responsible institutional investors use these reports to assess and value companies on their sustainability performance.
  • It provides generally accepted practices for sustainability reporting, enabling benchmarking within an industry as well as comparing companies in different sectors.
  • It is compliant with the Carbon Disclosure Project, ISO 14000 and ISO 26000 reporting standards.

Who should attend?  For organizations in this area, this is the most affordable time to get someone trained in GRI, especially if you’re planning to use GRI in the future.  The next closest locations are Chicago or Kansas City where travel expenses could be more than the tuition.

The training will be on July 19-20, 2012 at the Carlson School of Management and is designed for businesses, municipalities, governments, not-for-profit organizations and consultants.  In this two-day course, participants will learn how to manage the sustainability reporting process using the Global Reporting Initiative’s third-generation (G3 and G3.1) Sustainability Reporting Framework.  Topics include publication project management, stakeholder engagement, materiality assessments, GRI coverage assessments, data collection, goal setting and GRI principles for defining boundary, content and quality.  Upon course completion, participants will receive a certificate directly from GRI.

A blend of instruction, individual and group exercises, sustainability case studies and special guest presentations from local reporting organizations keeps the course engaging and lively. Participants will also have an opportunity to network at a no-host mixer on Thursday evening.

When: July 19-20, 2012; 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM; optional no-host mixer July 19, 6:00 PM
